JOrge Antonio Gomez (JAG) Program
This program was created in memory of Jorge Antonio Gomez, who was murdered by LVMPD during the George Floyd uprisings for legally open carrying in Nevada. Jorge believed in the right of Black and Brown communities to arm themselves for protection and was a humanitarian in every sense. In his honor, we educate our communities about their gun rights, the history of armed resistance, and the racist policies designed to suppress self-defense and progress.
Our program addresses critical issues such as police terrorism, the lack of emergency medical care in marginalized communities, gun violence, and criminalization. Currently, we are in our History Series, laying the foundation for deeper discussions on conflict de-escalation and self-defense without firearms. Our ultimate goal is to empower our communities with the tools to handle conflict without relying on the police while also understanding how to legally and safely protect themselves when necessary.
We host educational classes covering these crucial topics, equipping individuals with the knowledge they need for informed activism. Each session, we aim to welcome at least five new faces into our growing community. Our focus is on engaging youth and marginalized individuals, ensuring that more people have access to the resources and education necessary to build safer, self-reliant communities.
