The People’s Investigation is an independent, community-led initiative that serves as the first point of contact for families and individuals impacted by police violence. Our mission is to uncover the truth, challenge false narratives, and provide unwavering support to those affected by police brutality. We work tirelessly to collect evidence, speak with witnesses, and gather data that holds the police accountable for their actions.

What We Do

• Conduct Independent Investigations: We investigate officer-involved shootings, incidents of police violence, and other cases of misconduct. By engaging with the community and gathering firsthand accounts, we uncover critical information that is often overlooked or misrepresented by official police reports.

• Release Truthful Narratives: We compile our findings into a clear and accurate narrative that we share with the community. This process helps challenge the false narratives often spread by law enforcement and ensures that impacted families receive the truth about what happened.

• Provide Support to Impacted Families: Once our investigation is complete, we assist the families by providing resources, support, and services. Whether it’s connecting them with legal support, organizing community rallies, or providing mental health resources, we ensure that the family’s needs are met during this critical time.

Our First Success: Christopher Smith

Our first successful investigation was with the family of Christopher Smith, who was fatally shot by LVMPD. Initially, the police claimed that Christopher had pulled a weapon on them, but after conducting our investigation—speaking with witnesses, employees at a nearby store, local building workers, and obtaining footage without the state—we uncovered that the officers’ narrative was false. Not only did they shoot Christopher without cause, but they also failed to protect innocent bystanders, refused life-saving care, and mishandled the scene.

Through our efforts, we obtained critical footage of the incident, providing undeniable evidence of the police’s misconduct. This investigation set a precedent for our work, solidifying our role as a community resource and ensuring that the voices of impacted families are heard and supported.
