We keep us safe

We keep us safe

We understand that liberation can only come through building with one another. To truly be free, we must connect, heal, and strengthen our communities. We stand by the principle that we keep ourselves safe—because we cannot rely on the state for our protection when the police continue to harm and kill us.

Community Healing Circle

Building a world without police means prioritizing healing. Our Community Healing Circle is a space dedicated to addressing trauma, grief, and loss in all its forms. It began after the tragic UNLV shooting as a response to the collective trauma experienced by students and the greater Las Vegas community. Community organizations, healers, therapists, and others came together to provide resources such as food, therapy sessions, and wellness services, creating a space for processing and support.

Our healing circles have since expanded to hold space for grief and loss beyond immediate tragedies. Whether experiencing the loss of a loved one, a relationship, housing, or stability, we recognize that healing must be a community effort. This programming emerged from deeply personal losses—a brother taken by gun violence and a son lost to a preventable health condition—reflecting the systemic injustices many face.

By providing spaces for reflection, connection, and care, the Community Healing Circle is part of our larger commitment to building strong, self-reliant communities where healing and justice go hand in hand.

Community Check-INs

A community check-in is our version of a canvass. Canvassing has a political party system correlation that More Than A Hashtag generally rejects, conformists and electoral ideologies that hinder the goal of abolition. We believe that power is built and maintained in the community, and we must reach out to our community to build it. These conversations help build solidarity, discuss alternatives to policing, and connect us on a deeper level, developing a collective mission to liberate ourselves from oppressive systems.

Our vision for a world without police starts with building strong, connected communities. Through our Community Check-Ins, we regularly visit overpoliced neighborhoods to talk with folks about their experiences, concerns, and needs. We know that real change comes from relationships, so we prioritize listening, learning, and building with the people directly impacted by systemic harm.

These check-ins are about more than conversation, they’re about connection. We bring snacks and water for kids, engage with them about life, and help link families to resources that support their well-being. By showing up consistently, we strengthen trust, foster solidarity, and work toward real community solutions rooted in care, not punishment.

Community Events

We believe in building our base and raising awareness through joy, connection, and celebration. Nothing brings people together like good food, music, and a good time. Our community events are about more than just gathering—they are a way to extend love, show up for our people, and remind our community that we are here for them.

These events create space for laughter, culture, and collective care, while also providing opportunities to share resources and build relationships. By centering joy and togetherness, we strengthen our community and reinforce that we don’t just fight for a better world—we build it together.
