The People's Investigation was launched following the murder of Christopher Smith, where it was discovered that the police had lied about the incident, falsely claiming that Christopher pulled a gun on an officer when he had actually thrown it. Through thorough investigation and community engagement, the team gathered eyewitness accounts and evidence to help secure legal representation for Christopher, release a video that altered the public narrative, and ultimately, challenge the official story. This success led to the establishment of The People's Investigation was designed to investigate the police based on community complaints. We collect evidence, verify facts with local witnesses, and conduct community analysis, to hold police accountable and empower impacted families and individuals to seek justice and truth.
A community check-in is our version of a canvass. Canvassing has a political party system correlation that More Than A Hashtag generally rejects, conformists and electoral ideologies that hinder the goal of abolition. We believe that power is built and maintained in the community, and we must reach out to our community to build it. These conversations help build solidarity, discuss alternatives to policing, and connect us on a deeper level, developing a collective mission to liberate ourselves from oppressive systems.
